Project Description

BPS and the ODOT’s Local Technical Assistance Program updated and expanded the existing Safe Routes Academy course offerings to include a wider breadth of subject material related to active transportation. Developing new courses, revising existing courses, and rebranding the new Active Transportation Academy were included in this process. BPS created six new training courses, including Complete Streets Implementation, Traffic Calming, Advocating for Active Transportation, Health and Equity in Transportation, Conducting Walk and Bike Audits, and Creating a Vision Zero Action Plan. To provide a coordinated and uninterrupted transition while new courses were being developed, BPS also continued to offer and teach existing courses for the Safe Routes Academy. Promotion was a key piece in this project for optimizing the Academy’s enrollment and outreach. The BPS team updated the Academy’s existing materials, created new materials, hosted booths at conferences, and conducted outreach to various agencies and organizations to promote the new Active Transportation Academy and its programs. The BPS team also converted one of the Academy’s courses into an eLearning format using course materials and Lectora software making the courses more accessible.
